The Tampa Bay Rays caught lightning in a bottle when they acquired outfielder Randy Arozarena from the St. Louis Cardinals prior to the 2020 season.

Since his arrival in Tampa Bay, Arozarena has been a godsend, winning ALCS MVP honors in 2020 and claiming the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 2021.

This season was no exception, as the slugger hit .263 with 20 home runs and 89 RBI.

At the MLB GM meetings, Rays general manager Peter Bendix spoke with MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.

Morosi asked Bendix about potentially giving Arozarena a multi-year extension.

Bendix replied by saying that it’s something the Rays are going to take a look at this offseason.

Rays Looking To Extend Arozarena

The Rays are obviously not known for dishing out large contracts, especially given their small-market status.

However, what they have been able to do is get the most out of the players they acquire in trades, with Arozarena being one of the finest examples.

So naturally, Arozarena is the kind of player that the Rays could consider giving a multi-year extension.

Arozarena has been everything the Rays could have ever hoped for since being acquired from the Cardinals, and as of now, that trade from January of 2020 seems to be a pretty one-sided affair in favor of the Rays.

Granted, funds are limited for a team like the Rays, but Arozarena has emerged as a superstar and certainly deserves a contract extension.

The Rays did give Wander Franco a 10-year extension last offseason, so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for them to do the same with Arozarena soon.
