The New York Yankees are still a hot conversation topic among fans and, of course, New York media.
The American League Championship Series elimination at the hands of the Houston Astros is still fresh in everybody’s minds.
They weren’t just beaten: they were outclassed by a smarter organization who has been doing a better job at identifying and nurturing talent for a few years now.
The papers in New York have a reputation for overreacting and exaggerating certain situations and realities.
Well, now that the Astros have knocked the Yankees out of the playoffs for the fourth time in eight years, the New York Post presented a plan to return the team to the first pages.

“Buy the way” is the title, which is, quite frankly, amazing.
How Much Will The Bombers Spend?
The summary says that the Bombers need to spend big to get back to championship heights.
There may be some truth in that phrase, but they also presented four players in pinstripes: Aaron Judge, Justin Verlander, Edwin Diaz, and Carlos Correa.
All four are free agents or have a chance to reach that status.
While in theory, the plan makes sense – it’s hard to envision them losing many games with that foursome, to be honest – there is no way the Yankees will spend the necessary funds to make it happen.
Judge alone will cost more than $300 million, probably closer to $320.
Correa, if he signs the long-term deal he wants, will cost almost $300 million, too.
Verlander’s average annual value will be close to $25 million, and Diaz may push for a $100 million deal or close to it.
It all seems very unrealistic, but it’s part of the media’s creativity.
